Jeremy Johnstone was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico to a teenage runaway, and at 18 months old he was diagnosed terminal from severe neglect and malnourishment. After 6 months in the hospital he was adopted by a Vietnam vet from Bellingham, Washington and his wife, a hair dresser from Portland, Oregon. The first few months with his new family he spent mute, until walking through a mall seeing a coca-cola vending machine and rushing toward it screaming coca-cola. To keep him from crying, his birth mother had been feeding Jeremy baby bottles of coke as an infant. Learning to navigate life with learning disabilities and other side effects from his rough start, Jeremy found comfort in the arts. He grew up as a bit of an odd-ball on a farm in rural Oregon, building skate ramps with friends, spending both winters and summers on Mt Hood snowboarding and playing drums in rock bands.

Jeremy attended film school in Portland, Oregon while also running a snowboard company (Andromeda Snowboards) and touring the US in bands. He moved to Brooklyn, New York in his mid-twenties to take on the role of Art Director at the Sundance Channel. After a few years Jeremy was living in the Lower East Side of Manhattan where he spent nearly a decade freelancing at the top motion-graphics studios.

As a creative director at Doubleday & Cartwright, Jeremy moved to Venice Beach, California to open the Los Angeles branch for the company. After a few years he left for the opportunity to work with one of his heroes, Mike Judge, on an animated TV pilot (Tales From The Tour Bus). Once again back out in the freelance world he spent time as the creative director of 72&Sunny’s in-house production arm, Hecho En 72. Followed by a year deep dive into social media as the creative director and head of post-production for Popsugar Studios.

In 2018, he opened his own boutique post-production studio, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades. In the past five years running HsHG, Jeremy has continued working in advertising and commercial production while reconnecting back to his roots in music videos and short films.

Now a husband and father, Jeremy spends his free time coaching his daughter’s soccer team, collecting records and painting.

Jeremy is currently seeking new representation for commercial and music video directing.
